Abilities/Powers:
While being an average human being, Massachusetts is military-trained. He is exceptionally well-versed in close-quarters combat, since he most often chooses to be right in the middle of a battle instead of off to the side. (Though, he does show proficiency with a sniper rifle, but it is not his main weapon of choice.) He does tend to show exceptional prowess with a gravity hammer, being that it allows him to be as close as he wants to be, but it could be argued that not much prowess is needed when you're bashing a Brute's head in.

He is capable of making quick decisions, even if they require a bit more calculation than others, which has proven to be an asset out on the battlefield. He's a pretty smart guy, all things considered, even if he doesn't go out of his way to show that side of himself on a regular basis. He has a rather extensive knowledge of every weapon available to them in the Freelancer program, including the variants of grenades. He is actually very good at throwing them, even if he doesn't use them very often.

His armor ability comes in the form of an overshield, which adds a substantial amount of protection against weapons-fire and melee attacks. Hell, it pretty much shields against everything for a short period of time before it has to be recharged. While the overshield is in use, his armor's normal shielding doesn't take any damage, and once it has been depleted, he will resume the use of the regular shielding until the other has been recharged and he can use it again.

His power armor keeps him safe from pretty much everything, assuming his shields hold up and don't get taken down with a single shot from a high-powered weapon. (This is what makes his armor ability such an asset.) He was not high enough on the list to receive an AI, so he doesn't have to worry about that.

Power Limitations:
Even with his armor he doesn't have anything like enhanced speed or strength, but without it he lacks the shields, which is a pretty important thing when you're in the way of someone's bullet.

Inventory:
- One suit of Mark VI MJOLNIR assault armor (in green/gray)
- One Type-2 Energy Weapon
- One hundred battery units
- One Type-33 Light Anti-Armor Weapon
- Thirty fuel rods (6 clips of 38mm radioactive explosive ballistic rounds)
- Two Type-1 Antipersonnel grenades
- One pack of Tic Tacs (orange)

Personality:
Massachusetts would like to have it simply put as "he's an asshole," but that isn't quite descriptive enough. So here we go.

He can be a bit disagreeable at times. That's not to say he can't get along with anyone else, it's just that most of the time he chooses not to. That's most of the reason he isn't very close with any of his fellow freelancers - as a kid he was pretty much a loner, and he got used to being the only one to keep himself occupied, so it carried over into adulthood. Though as an adult, he treats it more of a choice than a situation he's been put in. (The kids he went to school with all thought he was a nerd, and really, he was, but that's not necessarily the point, here. In Project Freelancer, he tells himself that he doesn't need friends, that they're all there for a specific purpose and that's pretty much it.) More often than not, he simply tolerates those that he has to work with, trying to get through the mission he's designated as quickly as possible so he can get back to Command and pick up something else to do on his own.

This also leads into the fact that he's mostly pretty quiet. Since he keeps to himself so much, he doesn't have any reason to talk very much, and that's another thing that transferred from childhood. He often doesn't open his mouth unless he has something important to say - or, in the case of him being a bit of a jerk, some sarcastic comment or another. He's never seen a reason to say anything unless it's of some kind of value, or .. it might piss someone off. (There have been instances, when he first joined the military that he would say something just to get a ride out of his fellow recruits. Most of the time, it ended in a scuffle or just a punch to the mouth that always got him and the other guy gruntwork for a while. It's actually pretty surprising that he never got discharged before he got into the Freelancer program with how much his mouth got him in trouble.)

He does, on the other hand, take his job very seriously. His military training and his designation as a freelancer agent means quite a bit to him, and he holds both in very high regard. On missions - especially solo ones - he's very detail-oriented, though he does focus on trying to reach the objective as quickly and painlessly as possible for everyone involved. (Well. Painlessly for himself, mostly. If he's going after a target, it's not going to necessarily be painless for them unless they really aren't paying attention.) He tries to plan out every little detail, assuming the mission itself stays linear and nothing goes wrong, but if it doesn't he's pretty quick to make any adjustments needed. He's pretty damn good at thinking on the fly; give him a problem with variables and he'll think of a few ways to solve it, and just that alone makes him an asset to the program.

And while he does take his job seriously, he has been known to play the occasional prank on those that he's close to. (Or just generally acquainted with. He could call them friends, if he wanted to.) These pranks are always pretty harmless and fall under the lines of such things as putting shaving cream in someone's helmet without their knowledge, and every once in a while turning off an alarm so they're late getting up in the mornings. (This could, of course, become a problem if there is an important mission scheduled for that particular person, but so far it's always worked out that it hasn't happened. Yet.) He actually doesn't smile a whole lot, but when he goes around doing things like this it usually means he's in a pretty good mood, even if he doesn't show it.

Massachusetts does have some abandonment issues, though he never really thinks of them that way. His parents divorced when he was ten, and while his father got custody of him, his mother didn't really seem interested in keeping up with him once they'd all gone their separate ways. He lived with his father until he was old enough to go to college for a couple of years, and even when he graduated from high school, she didn't try to make contact with him. And while he's close with his father because of it, when he was younger, he used to wonder if there was anything he'd done to make her not want to stay with him, or even stay in contact. His father never gave him any contact information so he could try to get in touch with her, and never actually gave him a reason for her distance. Now, as an adult, he just assumes that she simply had no interest in him, even if before his parents separated she was nothing but a caring mother. (It makes no sense to him, but trying to make sense of it as a kid didn't work very well, and once he got older he just decided to leave it alone.

He's always thinking. About something - which might tie into how quiet it is on a regular basis. He's very introspective, always contemplating things even if he never lets on that he is. (Because he's not supposed to be spending his time thinking about things. He's supposed to be helping fighting the war against the Covenant. Nothing more, nothing less. He is a trained weapon of the miltary.) He's pretty sure that if anyone else knew that he thought about small things so much, he would never be taken seriously - or he'd just be psych-evaluated until he fell over from all the tests. So he keeps that little bit to himself, and outwardly it's like nothing is different.

While he does have abandonment issues, once he gets attached to someone? He's very loyal. Very devoted. (He doesn't show it in terms of .. well, how a normal person would. He can be affectionate, but it's in the most subtle ways, most of the time. It can be in a smile, or a light in his eyes that doesn't show when he's looking at anyone else other than who it's directed at. A light touch to a hip or their back, whatever - it's all about subtlety, because he can't let himself be that blatant with it.) When he cares, he cares very deeply, and it's very hard to get him to let go if something goes wrong or the other person wants to break it off.

First Person Sample:
[when he first contemplates the device in his hands, he takes the time to figure out how it works before he thinks about sending a message. first of all, there's no way to tell if this network is secure, and it's that lingering thought in the back of his mind that keeps him from turning on the video function right away. when he finally makes up his mind to do so, he picks the video function.

he keeps his helmet on. there's something about letting anyone else see his face right off the bat that doesn't sit well with him. it's not that he's paranoid, really. he'd just prefer to keep it on.

and so the camera is focused on a flash of green and gray, the yellow of his visor, and his voice might sound a little bit distorted when he opens his mouth to speak. might sound just a bit mechanical.]

If there's been a change of plans in the mission directive, somebody should have told me. I can't get anything done if I don't know what the hell is going on.
